10 World of Warcraft Cataclysm Changes to Pwn Vanilla WoW
Blizzard has confirmed that the third expansion for World of Warcraft – Cataclysm will change the landscape of WoW forever.
It’s a sadness that many of the beloved parts of the original game will be lost, but more importantly Cataclysm is going to erase some of the worst parts of World of Warcraft, and that is something to truly cherish. Continue reading

WoW Stage: The lull before the Cataclysm
In accordance with my occasional habit, I was recently lingering around the Dalaran beer garden. I’m pretty sure I was having a beer. (Betcha didn’t see that coming, didja? Who’d have thought a dwarf would drink beer?) Those tables and that lawn are the favorite Alliance roleplay haunts on one of my servers, and you can usually find at least a half-dozen roleplayers seeking out people of like mind. Continue reading

Cataclysm: The exhaustive list of old-world changes
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is coming. Sometime. We’re at that point now where BlizzCon has been over for a few months and Blizzard is being pretty stingy with new information in the meantime. It’s a definite dry spell, but the same thing happened with Wrath — and then the Friends and Family Alpha began, and all bets were off. And while the F&F Alpha for Cataclysm hasn’t started yet (believe me, we’d know), that doesn’t mean you can’t stay informed. There’ve been bits and pieces of new info released, in PC Gamer magazine, on Twitter, and elsewhere on the internet. And we like to keep track of that! What’s come out is mostly new information on what’s going to happen to Azeroth. And we just recently decoded this planning map of Cataclysm zones, which is where some information comes from. So what this article is meant to be is a compendium of all known changes to old-world zones that’ll occur in Cataclysm, sorted by continent and zone. We’ll update whenever new information is released. Hit the jump to get caught up! Disclaimer: Some information may be outdated or incorrect by this stage in Cataclysm‘s development! Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com’s (almost) daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today. I was going to kick off today’s edition of The Queue by embedding Black Eyed Peas’ I Gotta Feeling (slightly NSFW) since I mentioned it was a guilty pleasure of mine on yesterday’s Moviewatch. Unfortunately, the official Black Eyed Peas Youtube channel disabled embedding and I’m not going to be a jerk and hijack it from somebody else’s channel. So you get a Dragon Age screenshot instead. Hooray! Blood! No, we’re not getting paid to plug this game constantly. We’re just nerds. Nerd gamers. This is what we do. Ilmyrn asked… “Any word on whether we’ll ever see a non-Arena frost wyrm mount?” Well, there’s a frost wyrm model in patch 3.3, but I assume that’s to go with the latest arena season. So I’m going to say… no. The Gladiators get Frost Wyrms, the PvE players get Invincible. Cyanea asked… “Where does that picture come from?” The picture used on yesterday’s edition of The Queue is a time warp image from Zach Yonzon. On the left is his wife, and on the right
What class is your goblin going to be?
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com’s daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today. I was up so late at the local Irish redneck bar’s karaoke contest — I’m in the finals next Thursday, for singing Fiona Apple’s “Criminal”, booyah — that I pretty much forgot I was supposed to write The Queue today. I tried to explain to Alex and Adam (after stumbling home) that I owned that song and I should be off the hook, but they disagreed. So here I am, 3:19 in the morning, answering your questions. Kavu kicks off today’s Queue. Kavu asked… Question: I just hit 63. With WotLK extending the cap to 80, is Aldor vs. Scryer such a big decision anymore? Also, should i worry about grinding rep to get lvl 70 gear, or will it all be replaced by greens in Northrend? Good question, and an easy one. Completely ignore the Aldor/Scryer stuff and just bust your ass leveling until you get to Northrend at 68. The gear you get in Northrend for completing the first bunch of Borean Tundra quests will destroy your BC items in terms of stats, so just plug away until you get to 68, take the boat, and put your long johns on. and animation fixes would really help. Draenei, blood elves, and now goblins and worgen all look so good compared to our old dumpy avatars. If you’re wondering why less character customization options exist in WoW than in many other MMOs, just ask Samwise, who had this to say: “We gave very simple choices, and there wasn’t any of this ‘Is my guy five pounds overweight? Are his eyes sea blue or sky blue?’ Don’t get me wrong, that sort of thing is cool, but we made a very simple UI and character creator, and that’s one of the main things that helped people gravitate to the game.” Makes sense. Just, please, Blizzard. Listen. Make everyone’s models look better — the number of people who’ll complain that their human female just isn’t as moonfaced as she used to be is incredibly small compared to the number of people who’d resub in anticipation of not having a hare lip on their human male. Don’t worry about the luddites. Just bring WoW’s graphics into this decade, and bring our models with ‘em. Dear Archdruid, Why do you seem to hate, or at least resent all manner of life that comes to say hello to you? I’m exalted with your people, yet you still show me no

Potential character model revisions in Cataclysm
WoW‘s fifth anniversary and the interviews surrounding it have ended up providing us with some previously-unknown tidbits of information — which is a good thing, especially when it comes to stuff we’ve been wanting to hear about for a long time. This particular tidbit comes from the Warcry network interview with J. Allen Brack and Samwise Didier about the game’s anniversary, and it’s about a subject near and dear to our constantly-complaining hearts: new character models. They might even be coming in Cataclysm. Says Brack: “Even though things would be better with new (character) models, we’d probably spark a lot of player outrage. So we’ve talked about giving players a choice between the classic models or the new ones, but it might not be something we want to take on at the same time as we remake Azeroth.” That’s pretty big news. We’ve been wondering about the status of these old models for a long time. His language indicates that it might not be a Cataclysm feature, but we sure hope so. Troll models are a bit long in the tooth — pardon the pun — and human males desperately need an update more than almost anything. But really, all of the pre-BC models do. Even just a few extra
