Video of new Tauren Druid forms in patch 3.2

Hail and well met, Druid colleagues. I ventured into the scary realm of moviemaking in order to capture the new Druid forms on the PTR. Because my Hordeside main copied over first, we’ll take care of the Tauren initially. The Night Elf video is in progress, and I’ve been told that Blizzard fixed the bug where one of the NE bear forms wasn’t properly linked to a hair color, so stay tuned. Anyway, this is my first video and I apologize for the amateurish quality; I’ll get better (though not necessarily less dorky) with practice, but I really wanted to get this out for everyone who can’t get on the PTR but wants to see what the new forms look like in motion. If you can’t run sound at the moment, the only really pertinent commentary is that: a). The forms are beautiful: b). They look great in motion: c). For whatever reason, the bear

The Midsummer Fire Festival has begun

The Midsummer Fire Festival should now be live on almost all North American realms. If it isn’t, it will be shortly! Not much has changed since last year, beyond the addition of the achievements. Speaking of achievements, while we have our guide to the Achievements of Midsummer, you might not be able to make a significant dent in them today if you made rounds with the flames last year. None of the quests seem to have reset from last year, so getting your hands on the holiday currency to buy the items you need is going to be difficult, to say the least. By difficult, I may or may not mean borderline impossible. I don’t expect this to be a permanent issue, we’ll probably see a hotfix sometime in the near future since the problem is already being checked out. Of course, that’s assuming the issue is something that can be hotfixed. If not, I

The limits and possibilities of Bind to Account

Aeuis brings up an interesting point over on the forums: even though some of the items we get are called “Bind on Account” (or, more properly, Bind to Account, even though most people use BoA as shorthand) they’re really not that, because you can’t actually send them across factions or realms. Of course, that’s pretty obvious to people who’ve been playing the game for a while — Blizzard has never really encouraged cross-faction interaction at all (you can “send” items through the neutral AH, though even that is a bit of a hack, not really the intended purpose). So BoA items are actually bound to account, server, and faction. But Wyrxian is surprisingly open about “future possibility:” he does say that while Blizzard could allow us to send items between factions if they wanted us to, they also wanted

Need flying mounts? Mei Francis has you covered

Patch 3.1.2 brought it with the usual slew of undocumented changes, but here’s one that appears to have flown under the radar for a while — Mei Francis, Dalaran’s exotic mount vendor, now sells basic Outland flying mounts (read: gryphons and wyverns) at both regular and epic speeds. This is great news for, well, anybody who doesn’t want to go to Outland! I know that when my shaman hit 77 and I bought all of my flying skills, it was a pain to have to go to Shadowmoon Valley to buy my mount, so I can certainly appreciate the change. Of course, there are even more mount changes in store — a 150% speed flyer at 60, for example — so this is obviously part of the devs’ mission to streamline the leveling and traveling process for players of all levels. A welcome and unexpected change for quality of leveling life —

WoW Moviewatch: Warcraft Meets Star Trek

At first, I wasn’t entirely positive how I felt about Warcraft Meets Star Trek. The author, who goes by muffstermunch, doesn’t have a lot of credits to his name yet, and does say this is his first full-length music video. So, while I was definitely interested in the idea, I wasn’t sure what to think. As I fired up the YouTube stream, though, my beloved Draenei fiancee saw it over my shoulder. Recognizing the song from old Dr. Demento shows, she started laughing at the dancing gnomes and immediately yelled, “Oh my god, that’s awesome!” So, if nothing else, that experience instantly won me over. Warcraft Meets Star Trek is one of those machinima pieces that is just plain fun. The sheer ridiculousness of the WoW models chosen to represent the original cast is brilliant. The idea to use of a brooding Night Elf as Spock was

Addon Spotlight: I Have Macro Lol!

Addon Spotlight takes a look at the little bits of Lua and XML that make our interfaces special. From bar mods to unit frames and beyond, if it goes in your Addons folder, we’ll cover it here. We covered another Ackis mod, Ackis Recipe List, just last Sunday. This one is (in my opinion) even cooler, and will be of interest to a wider audience than recipe completists. I Have Macro Lol!, or IHML for short, generates a dynamic macro (like Mounted) for you to use in various situations, like dailies and boss fights. You can use just one slot on your action bar, and the macro will adapt itself to whatever situation you happen to be in. From the configuration interface (/ihml), you can set up what macro you want to use in any given boss encounter or zone. The macro is generated upon entering a zone or loading BigWigs boss modules for a boss fight (no support for
